Oak furniture are prone to stain even if you are careful.
Here are some DIY remedies to fix it.
1. Removing Stains from Wood with Toothpaste and Baking Soda
You can use toothpaste and baking soda to remove tough stains. Toothpaste is typically composed of mild abrasives that are effective in removing wood stains. Simply drizzle some toothpaste on a cloth and lightly rub it on the affected area; after a few circular strokes, you should see the mark lifted. For more tenacious stains, mix baking soda with it to make a slightly more abrasive mixture.
2. Removing Water Stains from Wood with Mayonnaise
Believe it or not, mayonnaise is an effective method for removing water spots from oak products. It is possible to utilize mayonnaise to eliminate water stains. It might seem strange, but oil in mayonnaise removes stains by displacing water. Allow it to sit for a while, then wipe it away with a dry cloth. You can prevent water stains on your furniture by using this common household item.
3. Removing Stains from Oak with Bleach
Bleach is also a common household item that can be used to remove stains from your oak furniture. It may seem alarming to put bleach on solid wood, but it works! Please note that not all wood reacts well, but bleach is effective at removing stains from oak.
To remove the finish, sand the surface of the oak before applying the bleach with a cloth. Allow the bleach to sit on the stain for around ten minutes before wiping it away. If the stain remains, reapply the bleach and utilize a firm brush to scrub it away. You may finish by applying a fresh coat of stain or clear varnish to protect the wood.
4. Removing Dark Stains from Oak
Too much tannic acid in oakwood causes dark stains. When metal and moisture come into contact with the wood, a chemical reaction takes place. Although these stains are difficult to remove, they can be addressed.
- Sanding the dark stain down to the wood using 100-grit sandpaper, working with the grain.
- After sanding the stain off, apply a coat of varnish to match the original finish.
- Blending with the wood is accomplished by feathering the edges with super fine steel wool and finishing with a quality wood polish. Alternatively, dip a brush in bleach and lightly apply it to the stained area.
- After the bleach has sat on the stain for a couple of hours and the stain has faded back to its original color, wipe it away with a damp sponge.
- After the area dries, finish with a stain to prevent further lightening if vinegar is applied.
